Youth Workers

SHFPACT offers a range of services to support youth workers in the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions, including nationally accredited training in Sexuality Education, a Library & Resource Centre wth sexuality education aids, and program development & evaluation support for youth workers implementing their own sexuality education programs.  

SHFPACT has also developed a range of workshops and education sessions for students in ACT schools, ranging from Primary School through to College, which can be delivered by male and/or female educators on request. 

 

Topics can include puberty, relationships and friendships, human development, contraception, safe sex, relationships, consent, sexual assault, pregnancy, bullying and harassment, and other topics relating to sexual and reproductive health.

Education and health promotion activities can be tailored to small or large groups of students, and to meet the needs of the school and/or parents. Contact the Education & Health Promotion Team at SHFPACT on 6247 3077 to discuss your needs, or for more information.

Other programs available to youth workers include: 

PASH - Promoting Adolescent Sexual Health

PASH is an education & training course for young people interested in becoming peer educators. The course is designed to increase the communication and assertiveness skills of young people, and equips them with the knowledge and skills required to promote good sexual and reproductive health. The course also encourages the delay of sexual activity, and an increase contraceptive and safe sex behaviours in young people who are sexually active. A Train-the-Trainer Program can also be delivered to school staff wishing to implement the program in their school.

Nationally Accredited Courses

SHFPACT’s ‘Introduction to Sexuality & Health’ and ‘Educating in Sexuality & Health’ offer teachers, education support staff and youth workers in schools the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications. Talking Sexual Health (Secondary Schools)
A full day or two hour overview designed to give teachers the knowledge and skills to address issues such as adolescent sexuality, safe sex, contraception, STIs, consent and sexual assault (including how to respond to disclosures of sexual assault).
