Delivered face-to-face over three consecutive days, with additional online modules to be completed pre- and post-in person days.

The course includes:  

• 37 hours of theoretical training, delivered through a blend of online modules and face-to-face sessions.  11.5 hours of online modules before and 8 hours of online modules after the three days face-to-face attendance.

Course Overview

This intensive and in-depth training program is designed for doctors/independent primary care clinicians aiming to deliver high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare in primary care settings.  

This theory course is part of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia National for Doctors.  We understand Nurse Practitioners and Midwives have a unique Scope of Practice and may benefit from attending the theory component of this certificate. 

Learning Outcomes 

1. Demonstrate strategies to enable a non-judgemental approach to reproductive and sexual health practice. 
2. Assess and manage common and important reproductive and sexual problems in primary care andrology. 
3. Assess and manage common and important reproductive and sexual problems in primary care gynaecology. 
4. Compare the mechanisms of action, efficacy, side effects, contraindications, risks, advantages and disadvantages of all forms of available contraception. 
5. Integrate use of Australian Guidelines for STI testing and management into a variety of clinical case scenarios.

• Fertility and preconception care  
• Options for unintended pregnancy

• Medical Practitioners who previously completed the FPAA Certificate and wish to update their knowledge  
• Nurse Practitioners and midwives 

Participant Eligibility 

To enrol, participants must be: 

• A registered medical practitioner with MBBS or equivalent  
• Registered nurse practitioner or midwife 
• Have at least one year of clinical experience post-internship, including women’s health experience in general practice or hospital gynaecology  

Course Delivery 

This course is delivered via a hybrid model: 

• Face-to-face sessions at SHFPACT in Canberra over three days 
• Online modules accessed before and after the in-person course (available up to four weeks prior)  

Theory Component 

• Three days of in-person sessions featuring presentations, demonstrations, simulations, and case-based learning  
• 11.5 hours of online learning through online modules before in-person sessions   
• 8 hours of online learning post- in-person online modules  
• Optional Contraceptive Implant Training Workshop at the end of Day 1
